Rules / System of Play

 
The Swiss Cup Basel will be played in the “Triple-Knock-Out” system. All games are played over 8 ends.
The three winners in the A Road qualify directly for the playoffs. Two teams from the B Road as well as the three unbeaten teams from the C Road also qualify for the playoffs.

Games of the A, B and C Roads

Stone Colour / Hammer / Practice Time
The first mentioned team plays with the red stones, the second team with the yellow stones.

Prior to the first game in the A Road there will be a practice time of 5 minutes for each team. Afterwards the hammer for the first end is decided by an LSD.

The team with the red stones starts with the practice and plays the LSD clockwise. After that the team with the yellow stones has its practice and plays the LSD counterclockwise.

At the end of each game an LSD will be played to decide the hammer for the next game. The winner of the finished game plays the first LSD. There will always be only one LSD per team. The player and the rotation can be freely chosen.
 
Time-Out
There is no time-out in the games of the A, B and C Roads.
 
Extra End
In case of a tie after 8 ends one extra end will be played. If no decision is reached in this end, the team which had to begin the extra end wins the game.

In the upper hall the extra end is always played towards the stand (home end).

 

Playoffs

Stone Colour / Hammer / Practice Time
Prior to each game, each team is granted a practice time of 5 minutes. The team with the red stones (first named team) starts the practice. The higher qualified teams from the roads are entitled to the last stone. In case of equal qualification, an LSD must be played. Red: clockwise, yellow: counterclockwise.

Playoff games are limited to 30 minutes “Thinking Time” and are played without breaks.

A minimum of 6 ends must be played in all playoff games.

Time-Out
In the Playoffs each team is entitled to 1 personal time-out within the effective playing time and 1 time-out within the extra end.

The coach is only allowed at the field of play wearing curling shoes.

Only the coach of the team taking the time-out is allowed to communicate with the team.


Extra End

Ranking
The losers of the quarter finals are ranked jointly in 5th place, the losers of the Semi-finals in 3rd place.
 
For the forteiting of a playoff game the following fines will be imposed:
Final = CHF 3’000.--, 1/2 & 1/4 - Finals: CHF 1’000.--.
 
The tournament is played according to the rules of the World Curling Federation (WCF). In case of disagreements, the supervisor of the games will take the final decision.
