Rules / System of Play

 
The Swiss Cup Basel 2024 will be played in the “Triple-Knock-Out” system. All games run for 8 ends.

The three winning teams of all their games in the A-road qualify directly for the playoffs.
Two teams from the B-road as well as three unbeaten teams in the C-road also qualify for the playoffs.

The losers of the quarter finals are ranked jointly in 5th place.
 
 

Stone Colour / Hammer / Practice Time

The team whose name appears in the top panel of the scoreboard plays with the red stones. The other team plays with the yellow stones.
Only prior to the first games of the A-road each team is granted a practice time of 5 minutes (red begins). Afterwards the hammer for this first end is decided by an LSD.

Games in the A-, B- and C-Roads
Immediately after the end of a game an LSD will be played. The result of this LSD will decide the hammer in the next game. The winner of the finished game plays the first LSD.

Number and rotation of LSDs to be played.
Each time only one LSD will be played, whereby the player and the rotation can be chosen freely.
 
 

Rules concerning extra ends (whole tournament)

In case of a tie after 8 ends one extra end will be played. If no team scores in the extra end, the team which had to begin the extra end wins the game.
In the upper hall the extra and is always played towards the stand (home end).
 
 

Playoffs

Prior to each game, a practice time of 5 minutes is granted to each team. The team with the red stones begins.

The higher ranked team of the roads will have the advantage of the hammer. In case of equal road qualification the LSD from the B-qualifier is decisive.

For all playoff games a maximum of 30 minutes “Thinking Time” is allowed.

A minimum of 6 ends must be played in all playoff games.
 
The following maximum fines will be imposed for forfeiting a final match:
Final = CHF 3’000.--, Small Final = CHF 1’000.--, Semifinal and Quarterfinal: CHF 1’000.--.
 
The tournament is played according to the rules of the World Curling Federation (WCF). If necessary, a ruling decision will be taken by the supervisor of the games.
